Pilar is a sustainability expert at IMPACTO, and brings 15 years of experience in environmental, social, and governance (ESG) management, research, and analysis. She advises clients on how to transform processes and efficiently incorporate practices in their strategy and operations to increase their sustainability. Pilar has worked on environmental and energy projects in numerous countries in Latin American for the private sector and the IDB.
Pilar is currently conducting research in environment and sustainability, with a focus on sustainable finance, ESG, water footprint, circular economy, climate change and energy, and environmental assessment. Her current research aims to analyze the relationship between the environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices of companies and their performance in the market. The purpose of such research is to find out how investments in ESG in different sectors have a positive effect on the economy.
Pilar participated in the preparation and execution of projects in the Infrastructure and Environment sector at the IDB for 7 years. Additionally, she was in charge of the corporate supervision and planning of IDB operations and the operational and budgetary execution of the project portfolio for the Infrastructure and Environment sector and the Climate Change and Sustainability sector.
Previously, Pilar worked in the design and supervision of environmental and social risks of projects and programs in companies such as Ambiental Consultores (now INERCO), ExxonMobil, Carboquimica SA, Cerro Matoso SA in Colombia. She has also contributed to research projects for multilateral organizations and NGOs such as the UN, Global Waste Cleaning Network (GWCN), Energy Globe Foundation and Surfrider Foundation. She has also accumulated progressive work experience in knowledge management, dissemination activities, and best practices in sustainability, environmental management, renewable energy, and climate change, among other subjects. She has a solid knowledge of tools application and methodologies to support the project life cycle, research, data analysis, and reporting.
Pilar is an Industrial Engineer from the University of La Sabana in Colombia, with a MSc degree in Energy and Sustainable Development, an MSc in Environmental Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia and currently, she is a PhD candidate in Environmental Engineering from the same university. She is fluent in English and Spanish.
